Why Great Writers No Longer Exist
WHY GREAT WRITERS NO LONGER EXIST: Our creative writing MFA programs have failed to create a generation of great writers! Just because we study and admire the style of another writer does not mean we are on an ego trip and going on some sort of snobbish style trend as a writer.
THE WORST ADVICE TO GIVE TO WRITERS: Having studied the writing craft since 1991, I have heard all this advice and I agree that these are some of the worst bits of advice you can give to a writer today, which may explain why so much of writing stinks! I will use some conventional structure, like recommended in Save the Cat! by Blake Snyder, but will really branch off and use my characters as archetypes of the story’s theme.
I will say this, when you first learn the craft it might be good to learn how to write from a single POV, so that when you break away from this rule, you know what you’re doing. But one of the reason my Silver Skies kind of flopped or was not as great as it could have been was because I was obsessed with sticking to one POV (following the advice of my writing training). By the time I realized I had already violated this rule at the end of the book, it was too late! So I made the ending omniscient POV and should have done so for the entire work.
Point of view is one of the hardest things for writers to master, but most of what I love to read has been written in God’s eye POV, which goes contrary to a lot of writing advice.
GOD’S CALLING CHRISTIAN WRITERS WHO CREATE GREAT LITERATURE: Amen! I think even Jesus would give this a thumbs up!
ONLY WRITERS WHO MAKE A LIVING FROM THEIR WRITING ARE TRUE AUTHORS? BALONEY, DON’T FALL FOR THIS JESUIT FASCIST DOGMA! Unfortunately, in today’s climate, it may be a self-published writer who is our next Hemingway or Jane Austen. The Jesuit controlled publishing world stifles true creativity, and courage in writing. Granted, many self-published authors stink, but let’s not relegate that only to self-published authors. I read a lot of boring crap coming from authors who make a living from their writing. Now-a-days, if you want to make a living from your writing, you have to CONFORM, which means courage and originality in thinking goes out the window. A self-published author who adheres to high standards for themselves can create their own brand and develop a reputation as a professional.
PRAY FOR ME AS I STRIVE TO BUCK JESUIT FASCIST CONTROL IN LITERATURE AND BUCK THE TREND OF CONFORMIST MEDIOCRITY WHICH HAS POISONED MODERN LITERATURE. I CREATED THIS PAGE TO INSPIRE REBEL WRITERS, WHO WILL DARE TO WRITE SOMETHING CONDEMNED BY THE JESUIT FASCIST LITERARY POLICE. MAYBE WE WILL FINALLY HAVE THE CURE TO BORING BOOKS AND MOVIES.
